This paper has mainly analysed and discussed affection of confining pressure and tem-perature to stress-strain characteristic of frozen Lanzhou sandy soil under certain loading rate. The results of test have shown that increase of confining pressure obviously strengthens plasticity and strain hardening property of frozen sandy soil. With increase of confining pres-sure,the ultimate deviator stress strength and axial failure strain gradually increase; With de-crease of temperature, the ultimate deviator stress strength and axial failure strain gradually decrease. But when σ3=0,the axial failure strain do not change with change of temperature. When the average normal stress σ3 < 6 MPa,the shear stress strength can approximately be expressed by Mohr’s law, and the cohesion and internal friction angle linearly increase with decrease of temperature; When σ3 > 6 MPa, the shear stress strength can be expressed by parabolic yield criteria.

In this paper, meheat transfre equation of the plane axisymmetrical problem with phase change is approximately solved under second boundary conditon, based on analysising actual bserved data, and it is obtained that the time linked together freezing soil round the nearest two freezing pipes, characteristic of freezing wall developing, average temperature of freezin-ing wali, and formularizing relation between thickness of inside freezing wall and thickness of outside freezing wall of freezing circle, are used in the freezing design,Calculating results are compared with observed data, and it is shown that the accuacy of results obtained with calcu-lating metheod and formulaes in this paper are high.

Based on the data recorded at Shijazhuang,Xi’an, Guangzhou, Kunming and HongKong,an apparent positive correlation between the precipitation δ18O and temperature inthe mid latitude, and negative correlation between δ18O and precipitation amount for thelowlatitude are found respectively. The result supports that Reyligh modeling is an appropriate tool to explain the statistical relations between the annual mean δ18O and correspondingtemperature. If the eddy transport of atmospheric moisture is assumed a fairly good agree-ment between the observed and simulated results has emerged.

According to the analysing the climatic datas on 105, station near Tanggula MountainPass in centre of Tibetan Plateau, shows its annal veriation and diurnal veriation of climaticfators. Some preliminary knowledge on climatic feature of this areas were got: The averageannal temperature is -6.0℃,the minimum temperature occurs in December and the maxi-mum temperature in July, comparing with western part of Plateau, there are climatic featurein observated areas like temperature increasing fastly and decreasing slowly. The preciptationmainly take place from June to August, but the relative humidity changes out oflaw, humidi-ty changes related well with thermodynamic reaction. Meanly annal windspeed is 3.6 m/s,there is strong wind in winter and weak wind in summer, also strong wind afternoon andweak wind in morning, the wind speed at afternoon in January could being as 100 m/s.Theannal total global radiation should be 7172.3 MJ, the maximum albedo were happen in De-cember and minimum albedo in July.

The correlations between snow cover over Eurasis,North America and the Tibetan Plateau and summer temperature in eastern China are analysed by using the NOAA/NESDISmonthly snow charts during the period between 1967 and 1983.The results of our study are summarized below: 1) Appreciable correlations with summertemperature in eastern china are summer snow cover in northern America and winter snowcover over the Tibetan Plateau;2)Summer snow cover on the Tibetan Plateau is significantlycorrelated with the temperatures in central and southern parts of Shaanxi Province, whilecorrelations between anomalies of winter snow cover over the Tibetan Plateau and the tem-perature in northwestern area of Sichuan Province.

Mean Generation Function──A new concept in time series analysis is employed in thispaper, and an MMFA model about main factor analysis is presented too. It is showed that MMFA model can simulate freeze-up dates in time series on Lijin reach of the Yellow River. and the simulated error and predicted precision are 9.5% and 85% respectively. The modelperformance and its wide applicability are presented at the end of this paper.

At least, two major phases of glaciation occurred on the west slope of the Mt. Gonggaduring Quaternary, one at the letter of Middle Pleistocene and another at the Late Pleistocene. In the former glaciation episode the glaciers on the west slope of MT. Gongga were dominated by valley type, ice tongues reached their maximum extent to the mouth of Tengzenggou Valley, 3200 m a.s.l. and the elevation of snowline was a little higher than 4300m a. s.l., During the latter episode the glaciers were dominated by cirque glaciers. The Gongga Glacier moraines can be traced near Weishida, about 3350 m a. s.l. In the branch valleys of Moxigou Valley glaciers extented only to the mouth of each branch valley and the snowline was at 4600 m a. s.l. probably. Also, the latter episode is divided into two glacier advancestages,in regard to the distribution of moraines.

In this paper,a theory of non-equilibrium thermodynamics is applied to the ecologic system offorest in zone of deep seasonal frozen soil on Mt. Maxian. The pattern of ecologic environment evolution is obtained from the studying of forest succession, The entropy change of forest ecologic system consists of two parts, those are dts(produced in the system due to irreversible proeesses such as change of plant quantity, biochemical activity, etc)and dgs(produced due to exchange of material and energy between the system and its environment),based on which the environmental development in the region is formulated.

The shear strength is one of important parameters for investigating the failure criterion of sea ice. It is difficult to perform the shear experiment on the sea ice due to its material features.Errors should be induced if conventional material.suchas metals.in the shear test is directely adopted. In this paper,a new test method is introduced,by which the shear strength and interfriction coefficient of the sea ice in three directions can be obtained.Based on the test results, the failure criterion of the sea ice is analysized using the Coulomb-Mohr theory

Polystyrene foam plates were used for preventing ice damage of a water intake in a reser-voir in Heilongjiang Province. Through practical freeze-melt cycle tests for three years, the thermal effect value in the freeze-melt process was obtained. It was found that the ice thick-ness under the polystyrene foam insulation plates was decreased and then the ice damage was relieved. The water intake is running mormally. This measure of preventing ice damage is technologically simple and economically beneficial. It is a way for preventing ice damage in the northern China.

The astronomical theory of ice age,as the up to date solution for the global climaticchanges in the Quaternary period, has been accepted by the most of the scientists in theworld. Whowever, there are still some problems to need further research. The author putforward three questions like as follows in this paper:The astronomical theory of ice age suggested that the ice age occured when the eccentri-city of the orbit of the earth was at its high value, But the comparison between the oxygen isotope curves from deep sea cores and the eccentricity change curve shows that the iee agescorrespond just with the low value of the eccentricity curve. So it seems to say that the ice ageoccured not in high but in low eccentricity periods. We can infer that if the semi-major axisof the orbit is a constant like it has been suggested by some scientists when the eccentricity changes, such fact that the ice age correspond with the low eccentricity will be able to be ac-cepted. Because in this case the mean sun-earch distance in a year becomes long and theinsolation on the earth decreases.Which was the key element for glaciation evolution after all, summer insolation or winterinsolation? This is a very important question which was disputed over different viewpoints, although the viewpoint proposed by Milankovitch,Copen et al that the summer insolation isthe decisive factor occupied the dominant position.Glaciation between Northern hemispher and southern hemispher were synchronous, which has been proved with many facts including glaciation terminations in the two himisphers.Such situation went against the precession principle and needs further research, although some hypotheses like CO2 change hypothesis and so on have been proposed.
